Lisa
Whitsett is a public speaker, consultant, writer, athlete, and coach
who has spent much of her life dedicated to creating opportunity for
women in the sport of amateur wrestling.
Since she started wrestling in 1989, she has represented Iowa,
California, and the United States in national and international
wrestling competition. In
1991, she was accepted as the first female member to the California
JETS, a Greco-Roman wrestling team.
In 1992, she was named the United States’ first female
assistant wrestling coach to a male wrestling team in Colorado.
Whitsett provided the commentary for the 2003 Texas State
Championships for the girls’ matches, a Texas first.
She was honored to coach to the first ever Texas Girls’
National wrestling team in 2002, and repeated that role in the summer
of 2003. She released her
book, Beneath the Armor of an Athlete: Real Strength on the
Wrestling Mat in April of 2003. This
year marks her 18th year of commitment to the sport, as she
continues to train and coach in the Dallas, Texas area.
Whitsett
earned a BA in Sociology from the University
of California at San Diego and an MA in Mental Health Counseling
from the University of Northern Iowa.
She applies her education and experience as a consultant in a
variety of business, sports, and other professional settings.
Her clients have included CEOs and Vice Presidents managing
change in the workplace, as well as athletes seeking solutions to
unique, individual problems. Whitsett
is an experienced public speaker and specializes in the experiences
and social issues impacting the female athlete.
Whitsett
owns a facility management and service company, Efficient
Facilities International, Inc.
